Since 2013, Kapil Sharma has been entertaining millions through different formats of his comedy show — from Comedy Nights with Kapil to The Kapil Sharma Show. While the laughter, celebrity banter and live reactions have kept fans hooked, one question has always intrigued viewers: Who gets to be in the studio audience, and how?
Actor Vikalp Mehta, who has worked on a few episodes of the show and joined Kapil on his US tour, has now given an insider’s look in a new interview with YT Mahendra Podcast.

🎭 “Most of the audience are junior artistes”
Vikalp revealed that a large portion of the studio audience is actually made up of paid junior artistes. “They need the same faces in the audience from morning till late night, people who can clap with the same energy and follow instructions. That’s why the makers hire junior artistes, pay them, and also provide food and water,” he explained.

⏱️ How the shooting unfolds
He described the process as being similar to a live play. “There are no retakes. The first segment could be Kapil’s monologue or banter with Archana Puran Singh, followed by a break, and then the celebrity interaction. Breaks are usually short, but a lunch break can take up to an hour,” Vikalp shared.
🎟️ No ticketing system for the audience
When asked if people can buy tickets to attend, he clarified, “As far as I know, there is no system of charging ₹500–1000 for entry. That’s fraud, it doesn’t exist. A portion of the audience are invited guests, like family or friends of people associated with the show, but the rest are professionals.”
With this revelation, a long-time curiosity among fans is now answered: the laughter you hear on screen is not just spontaneous — much of it comes from trained junior artistes ensuring the show always feels alive.
