Mohali, Punjab — September 13, 2025

A senior Punjab Police officer is facing serious charges after the suicide of a businessman in Mohali.

45-year-old Rajdeep Singh, an immigration consultant, died by suicide on September 9. He left behind a two-page note and a video recorded inside a bank toilet. Both documents accuse Punjab Police AIG Gurjot Singh Kaler of harassment and financial pressure.

Rajdeep claimed he had returned ₹1.60 crore to Kaler earlier this year. He wrote that the officer continued to demand more money in the name of profits. He also alleged that he was humiliated at the officer’s home, threatened, and told that his family and business would be destroyed.

Kaler, who is also a poet, singer, author, actor, mountaineer, and skydiver, is now on the run. His security officer, Assistant Sub Inspector Rishi Rana, and three civilians have also been named in the FIR.

Police have registered a case under abetment to suicide and conspiracy charges. Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Raids are being carried out to arrest the accused.

Family Demands Justice

Rajdeep Singh’s family has submitted the suicide note, video, and CCTV footage to the authorities. His father’s lawyer, Ramesh Grover, said the family only wants justice.

Rajdeep was cremated in his native village in Moga. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has assured that no accused, whether civilian or police officer, will be spared.
