Patiala: In a sentiment both evocative and deeply meaningful, it was expressed that daughters and trees alike offer shelter and sustenance under life’s harshest conditions. While daughters form the foundation of a progressive and compassionate society, trees remain essential to human survival.
These reflections were shared by District Planning Committee Chairman Tejinder Mehta and noted social worker Ashutosh Gautam during a sapling plantation drive organised to celebrate the 15th birthday of Jalseerat Aman, daughter of social thinker Aman Arora.

Van Mahotsav Celebrated with Purpose
The plantation initiative was conducted under the banner of the Social Empowerment Welfare Association (SEWA), led by Ashutosh Gautam, with Tejinder Mehta attending as the chief guest.
To mark the occasion, 15 shade-giving saplings were planted near Sirhindi Gate, blending celebration with environmental consciousness.
Call for Ecological Responsibility
Addressing the gathering, both Mehta and Gautam emphasized the urgent need to protect the environment amid growing ecological challenges.
They encouraged citizens to adopt a meaningful tradition—celebrating their children’s birthdays by planting trees—a gesture that fosters a deeper connection between the younger generation and nature while promoting environmental awareness.
They further assured that:
- Free saplings will be provided to interested residents
- Community participation will be actively supported
- Environmental initiatives will be expanded
In addition, Tejinder Mehta pledged 15 tree guards to support the initiative.
A Celebration with Purpose
Expressing gratitude, Aman Arora shared that celebrating his daughter’s birthday in a way that contributes to society and nature was a moment of immense pride for him and his family.
